The complexity of language and language acquisition is very hard to explain. There are many linguists and experts trying to unveil the process of language learning by setting multiple and different theories.

With this essay, we attempt to establish some differences and similarities between Chomsky and Krashen’s hypothesis on second language learning and acquisition.

Reflection

I think that the key word of both theories is “Input”. Both authors attribute an importance to what is the learner’s language exposure and I agree with this idea. Remembering my own experience of language learning I am proof of the great influence of music, videogames and American TV when acquiring a second language. Although I cannot deny that I had excellent English teachers in high school, 4 hours of English per week it is just not enough to cover it. Globalization and its comprehensible input contributed with a great deal of vocabulary and language structure.
