A reaction paper is not a research paper. The writer must read a text and then imprint his/her own original thought and analysis into an essay. It is usually divided into two parts: A Summary and an Evaluation.

In this opportunity we have been assigned to read Cook’s paper: “The Relationship between First and Second Language Learning Revisited" and write a brief essay with our reactions on her arguments.

Below you are going to find two links. The first one is the reaction paper with some feedback on errors and the second one is the document with the corresponding corrections.

Reflection

This reaction paper made me realize the great importance of our own motivations and personal goals when trying to learn a second language. A person could have all the necessary skills to learn another idiom, yet the lack of interest, perseverance, responsibility and good attitude towards the target language will be crucial factors to overcome when learning it. It seems to be quite obvious, yet the significance lies in the role played by the teacher. How can we teachers allure our student’s interests? How can we keep them motivated in class? I believe that it is not an easy task to do so, maybe technology will be my best allied with the next generations.
