Project: Language Learner Profile

  • 19 jun 2014
  • 1 Min. de lectura

In order to create a Language Learner profile factors such as the learner’s background, including the formal and informal approaches to the language and the experiences in the praxis with it must be taken into consideration. Second language acquisition can be encountered as a challenge for pronunciation and grammar mostly because of the strong influence of the native language of the learner.

Reflection

The most interesting feature of the production of the language of our interviewee was the strong influence of her L1, which was noticeable though the phonetic sounds of her speech. She replaced English vowels for the sounds of Spanish and even so her discourse was completely understandable. This raises the question, is it necessary to speak in perfect native-like pronunciation? Probably not. Of course, for us English pedagogy students it is important to be able to speak properly, yet in the future when we are teaching we will not consider perfect pronunciation as such an important feature of language. Our main goal will be on the comprehensible production of speech.
