Assignment 1: Sentences & Parts of Speech

To improve our level of proficiency in the language, it is imperative to learn how to recognize and produce sentences of a more complex construction. For this task, we were asked to identify simple, compound and complex sentences with their respective subjects and predicates.

We also had to distinguish the different parts of speech within a scientific article taken from www.NewscientistMagazine.com.

Reflexion

I believe that it is important to know how the English language is structured since its foundations. Knowing how sentences are organized, and the types of sentences there are will be helpful when trying to produce academic writing. It is clear that we cannot just rely in the assembly of simple sentences all the time; furthermore, it is of the same relevance to discern words in terms of parts of speech. If we do not use words accurately it will be extremely difficult to write properly.
